As is our wont, we occasionally have review pieces that come in just before or after their Kickstarter campaigns conclude. It’s simply unavoidable and it’s the case with the now-live Radcliffe Haxel chronograph, designed by a bunch of architects turned watch nerds in Oxford. The campaign—which is already fully funded—is live for another 15 days, and super early bird pricing of just under $300 is still available. Let’s take a closer look at the Haxel.
No reasonable person would argue the mold is being broken here. The Radcliffe Haxel is another entry into vintage-inspired, Seagull ST1901-powered, affordable chronographs. As is often the case with these microbrand offerings, the Haxel differentiates itself with its dial design. Massive radial subdials in contrasting colors offer a big vintage vibe, and the guys behind the brand–all architects–acknowledge that they have a soft spot for the colorful bullhead chronographs of the 1970s. The decidedly modern typeface adds a great spin.
The case is 40mm with 20mm lugs—what many would argue is ideal on par with other watches that use the manual-wind Seagull, the watch is 13.9mm thick with a domed sapphire Crystal. One thing that I am looking forward to seeing is the sandblasted case finishing.
Of the pics intrigue and you just can’t wait for the review, head over to the campaign links above or check out the brand’s website. I’m excited to go hands-on and will have an in-depth look at the Radcliffe Haxel soon.⬩
