Welcome to the freshly updated version of The Time Bum!
You have probably already noticed our new look. After enduring Google’s Blogger platform for 7 years, I have finally migrated to WordPress. Yes, I should have done this ages ago. Somehow it always got pushed down the list, but in 2020, Google finally turned its attention to the Blogger platform it had long neglected – and made it even shittier. That was it for me.
The good folks at Pipdig.co made short work of the transition and set me up with a new template to boot. I think it is more evolutionary than revolutionary, but it does allow far more flexibility while maintaining the clean appearance I prefer. Of course, there are still some teething problems (Mike’s reviews all have hard returns in the wrong places so they read like beat poetry) but we’re getting it all ironed out. If you notice an issue, please let us know.
That brings me to the other big change. When I talk about the blog, I can’t simply say “me” and “mine” anymore. The Time Bum isn’t just Loren Sciurba, Editor-in-Chief, and OB (Original Bum). It is now a team of five passionate watch nerds.
You should already know the prolific Mike Razak who has brought you 54 reviews since February 2019, including the one that contained the best opening paragraph in the history of affordable watch reviews.
The next to join our merry band was Lauren C., because you can never have too many people named Loren/Lauren on the same team. I’m sure that won’t cause any confusion at all. Anyway, you might know Lauren from her five reviews as Watchmaker’s Daughter. She is, in fact, the daughter of a watchmaker and has an amazing collection of vintage women’s watches (you can get a taste here) as well as a keen eye for interesting modern pieces. And yes, she reviews men’s watches too.
Finally, in December, I convinced Nate DeNicola and James Lambert to come on board. Nate has a particular affinity for American watch brands and has contributed three detailed and immensely enjoyable “Ultimate” lists for Independence Day 2019, Independence Day 2020, and that other beloved American holiday, Shark Week.
James is the guy who shows up at the watch get-together with a suitcase. The man’s collection is huge, slightly eccentric, and ever-changing. He has reviewed Celadon and Vapaus watches on this site, and has also given us an outstanding primer on vintage Seiko quartz watches.
This is just the start of what I hope will be an exciting year for The Time Bum. Hey, if we can get this pandemic under control (wear your mask, get your vaccination) maybe we can end it with another District Time watch show!
So, with that, it’s time to get back to our regularly scheduled watch reviews. Whatever the new year has in store for us, we hope you get as much joy from reading The Time Bum as we get from writing it. ⬩
